Thinking about homeschool transcripts can make some homeschool parents break out into a cold sweat. They think that they will mess something up or cause their child not to be accepted into the college of their choice. Here are some simple strategies that you can use to help you write up the best homeschool transcript possible.
Check in on your state requirements for graduation when your child is in seventh or eighth grade. Copy off the list and look over it with your child. You might be surprised at how simple the requirements are. Start making out a plan of what you want your child to study by year. Breaking down the years might help things not seem so overwhelming.
Talk to your child about whether they want to go to college, trade school or work. Look at their interests and help them dream if they don't know what route they want to pursue. Just because your child doesn't want to go to college, tell them not to close that door too early. Keep your options open, but start thinking about what their goals are for the future. Much of what they want to do after graduation will determine some of the subjects that they will study in High School.
Keep track of subjects studied. Writing a transcript is nothing more than a log of what you have done. If you have had your child study the basics of Math, English, History and Science and tossed in a couple of electives, your child will have a good bit of information to put on a transcript. Have a plan of what subjects they will study each year and stick with it. There are some great forms and templates available online that you can use to fill in to make sure you get all the necessary information included.
